Windows 2000 Printing error - need urgent help!!!?

PROBLEM - My printers have suddenly been deactivated. They sometimes show on the printer list, and when I refresh the list, they all disappear. I tried to add the printers again. When I hit the Add printer icon, I get a pop-up saying - "Printer operation cannot continue due to lack of resources. Printer subsystem not available".

SOLUTIONS TRIED SO FAR -

Tried the time tested "reboot a million times" option - nothing.

Tried freeing up space on the C drive - to free up system resources - didn't work.

Have checked for spyware, viruses, etc. Came up zilch!

Tried reactivating print spooler from Administrative Tools/Services. The printers are displayed after spooler is run, but disappear when I refresh printer list.

OS - Windows 2000 Server Edition. Working over my office LAN - all the printers are on the network. None of the other machines on the network have this problem.

Please help!!!

Windows 2000 Printing error - need urgent help!!!?nortin

Try this:

Click Start -%26gt; Run and type cmd and click OK

At the command prompt type these five commands

cd c:\winnt\system32\spool\printers

net stop spooler

del *.* (after enter type y for yes)

net start spooler

exit

Now try your printers

The c:\winnt\system32\spool\printers folder holds all of the print queues, not the actual printers themselves so don't worry about having to re-install anything.

To delete any bad jobs the spooler service has to be stopped first, hence net stop and net start spooler

Hope this helps!

Turn off computer UN plug printer from computer and from power wait a minute or two plug the printer to the computer then to the power start computer, it should recover.
Uninstall the printer. Then reinstall, and make sure it is listed as the default printer. Good luck.

Good antivirus antispyware combo?

I have Norton Anvivirus and it SUCKS I obviously have a whole bunch of spyware on my computer and most likely come viruses and it won't detect them. I want a new antivirus program but I heard that good antivirus has crappy spyware and adware and good spyware has crappy virus protection, so i was wondering if i could just make a cocktail of antivirus spyware/adware, firewall, antispam etc. programs that you can get for free. if so, please list the best ones

Good antivirus antispyware combo?norton 360

If you are going to change to a new anti-virus programme get rid of the old one. Do not try running two you will be in for trouble.

I run AVG anti virus

AVG anti Spy ware

AdAware SE Personal

Zone Alarm

CCleaner

Spybot search and destroy

They all reside quite happily together and I have trouble free life.

And they are all free!!!!!!

Good antivirus antispyware combo?photoshop

i used them after i uninstalled norton 360 and TAKES less memory and works much better.

Alternatives to avg antispyware 7.5?norton 2008

You've already got much of what I would have suggested, but how about Microsoft's very own Windows Defender?

Here, if you're interested:

http://www.microsoft.com/athome/security...

There's also Javacool's SpywareBlaster (but that doesn't update automatically unless you pay, otherwise it's free)

http://www.javacoolsoftware.com/spywareb...

Alternatives to avg antispyware 7.5?pop up blocker

How much do you want for free?

I have the same thing, but you just have to think about updating the virus definitions every couple of days.
"Google Pack" (http://pack.google.com) is a suite of free software made available by Google.

One of the components in the pack is Spyware Doctor SE, a very decent anti-spyware. In my experience, it performs much better than Microsoft's Windows Defender.
you can go for ad-aware 2007 it is best it not only removes spywares but also trojans adwares etc. and moreover it is absolutely free and gives daily free update. you can download it from www.download.com
Trust Me, SpyBot Search %26 Destroy is the best one out there. Of course you might have noticed variations in AVG antispyware %26 SpyBot scan results. They are immaterial.

Please rate my computer!?

I have:

Windows XP Professional with SP 2

1. Security:AVG Free anti-virus 7.1.409

Windows Defender

AVG anti-spyware 7.5

SpyBot Search and Destroy

AdAware SE Personal

ZoneAlarm Firewall (active)

2.Optimisers: CCleaner 1.3.407

Disk Cleaner

RamBooster

3.Entertainment: Windows Media Player 10

Winamp 5.37

4.Browser: Firefox 2.0 (i use it always)

IE 7.0

Opera 9.0.2

Burn4Free(CD Burner)

Completely game-free.

Some other software like TC, JDK1.3 etc.

Will I get 6/10? I give priority to security.

Please rate my computer!?norton antivirus 2007

I can't give you a rating without the following additional information:

cpu make/speed

ram amount/speed

motherboard type

chipset

video card w/ ram size

sound card

network interface

any and all additional hardware.

right now, i'd give your computer a 2 because it's junked up. you don't need three web browsers,.....you don't need the optimizers you've got loaded..they just drag overall performance down, the only aspect you're ok is in your OS/AV/spyware protection. that's good and complete...the rest of the system....it needs to be thinned out a bit, plus, like i said, your system could sound like an 8 to someone...but if you've got crap hardware, then it'll never rate that high. i'll even tell you MY box for the hell of it:

I am on wireless network,i have spywaredoctor paid version with antivirus is this enough security?

iv upgraded my broadband also should i run norton that get free with bt or just spyware doctor. should you also have windows firewall on or should it be turned off when ive got other protection. i havent a great deal of knowledge about pc's or what you can and cant run together, please help. thanks VERY MUCH

Firefox..?

Okay, so what exactly is firefox? Just another "safer" internet broswer? I heard it's free and more protected from spyware.....

So if u use it and IE(internet explorer) please tell me what's so great about firefox. And if u download it, u can switch btwn IE and Firefox whenever u want, right? Please and thank you!

Firefox..?antivirus downloads

It's another web browser. Some people like that it's supposed to be more secure - but if your PC is set up right %26 you use it wisely, there's no big difference in security.

I've tried IE, Firefox, Mozilla, Safari %26 Opera. I got the best performance from Opera. But I have now gone back to Internet Explorer (version 7). There are simply too many web pages that DO NOT WORK with other browsers. And I'm not talking about obscure sites - I'm talking about mainstream pages, like my (large national) bank's website.

You can download another browser %26 use more than 1, depending on whatever your criteria is. But you will have separate sets of bookmarks/favourites to maintain - and that's a pain.

This information is my opinion - based on 28 years writing software, 25 years as a computer owner, 20 years as a professional software developer/designer %26 10 years online.

Apple menu %26gt; System Preferences %26gt; International %26gt; Input Menu.

ClamxAv but you don't really need it, same with anti-spyware.
